Finding Architects in the Office

How do you find the future architects in the company? My favorite trick is always looking around the office for the messiest whiteboard. The great architects have whiteboards filled with diagrams of multiple things at once. Their whiteboards have partially erased diagrams with new diagrams written over it. It isn’t about the prettiest diagram or the perfectly designed system. Or about using the notation of the latest architectural framework. It is about writing down ideas and sharing those ideas. It is about conveying an idea and working with others to come up with the best approach.
Architects have natural abilities. A key indicator is their ability to visualize their thoughts on the solution. But architects are not useful, if they don't the ability to communicate their thoughts.
